Amherst Community Land Trust (ACLT)
The Amherst Community Land Trust (ACLT) is a private, nonprofit, charitable organization founded to address the shortage of affordable housing in Amherst and to strengthen neighborhoods threatened by high prices and absentee ownership. It does this by acquiring and holding property in trust, thereby making the housing on the land available for purchase and the land itself available for leasing to low – or moderate – income buyers for the long term. Owners of Trust properties agree to limit equity increases, thereby making the housing affordable to future resident/owners.
